If you notice your senior repeating questions often or not retaining recently learned information – These could be early warning signs. Also watch to see if your senior is more often relying on memory aids, such as notes or electronic alerts to remember things.

It could be something simple, like getting a lost on the way home from the grocery store or forgetting how to play their favorite game. If your senior struggles to complete routine tasks, it’s time to make an appointment with their doctor.

Your senior confuses times and places. 

It’s not uncommon with Alzheimer’s Disease to lose track of time, dates, and even seasons. Pay attention to how they perceive events that are not taking place immediately. Do they forget where they are? Are they aware of how they got to a specific location?

Struggling to follow a plan or solve a problem. 

Check to see if they are keeping up with their monthly bills or if they can follow a simple recipe. Many seniors will experience a decline in theeir ability to think and reason as an early sign of Alzheimer’s. 

Having complications while speaking or writing. 

Listen to your senior as they speak and read the things they write. Are they able to follow and keep up with a conversation? Are they forgetful of common or familiar words, names, and objects? 

Increasingly poor judgment. 

How is your senior’s overall state of thinking? In the early stages of Alzheimer’s, your senior may exercise poor judgment when it comes to things like spending money or keeping themselves clean and groomed.
