April is here, and that means many things, but one important event in thee senior community taking place all month long is Parkinson’s Awareness Month!
Parkinson’s Disease is, unfortunately, a common disease among senior citizens, a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement. That’s why it’s important to make communities aware of Parkinson’s and to get involved on an individual level. There are actionable steps you can take to raise awareness, starting with these five below.
One of the best things you can do is follow along with the Parkinson’s Foundation on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You can follow along with the hashtag #Plan4PD and learn tons of facts, watch videos, and hear real stories all related to Parkinson’s Disease. Social media helps to educate the public and spread the word.
Funding is one of the most powerful tools to help raise awareness, and April is a great month to make a donation if you’re in a position to do that. You can donate to the Parkinson’s Fund at https://parkinson.org/ Donate to help them offer seniors better care, new initiatives, and cutting-edge research.
Get to talking! Especially with those in thee #Plan4PD virtual community.
Whether you have questions of your own, or if you can answer other’s questions, getting online and having conversations is a great way to effectively raise awareness. You can then extend these online conversations with those who you personally know around you.
With current social distancing measures in place due to COVID-19 (coronavirus), attending a physical event or fundraiser is not possible right now. However, many virtual events are still being held to raise awareness for Parkinson’s Disease! Click here to find virtual events to attend.
Nothing is more empowering or educational than sharing your own personal story or experience (if you have one) with Parkinson’s Disease. Whether you have been directly or indirectly affected by this syndrome, sharing your story sends a strong message to the general public to raise awareness.
